New Jersey Police Chief warns Public after Questionable Pretrial Release
California State Senator Bob Hertzberg (D-Van Nuys) discusses at a rally in support of bail reform that “… Justice is what America is about” and “Justice and taking care of folks, is patriotism at its core,” yet he plans on doing something that will lead to injustice for the victims of crimes.
Hertzberg, along with Assembly members Rob Bonta (D-Oakland) and Reginald Byron Jones-Sawyer, Sr. (D-Los Angeles), plans to bring New Jersey’s failed bail reform to California, despite the fact that many dangerous people are being released in New Jersey without bail and without a guarantee that they will show up to court so that justice can be served for their victims.
For Example, twenty year old Christopher Wilson was charged in Little Egg Harbor, New Jersey with another sex crime with a minor, after two sex crime convictions when he was a juvenile. Prosecutors wanted him locked up until trial, but because of the bail reform, a judge released him to home arrest and electronic monitoring. This prompted Little Egg Harbor Police to take matters into their own hands and go door to door to warn the public about the high risk offender. Little Egg Harbor Police Chief Richard Buzby stated “I don’t know what the answer is, but there has got to be a better answer than this, because this isn’t an answer at all.” California cannot afford to make the same mistakes they did in New Jersey by ending monetary bail.
